Ewan McGregor turned down the role of James Bond. 'Casino Royale' director Martin Campbell offered the role to the 'Moulin Rouge' actor in the early casting days but the Scottish actor snubbed the offer over fears of being typecast. Campbell, who also directed 'GoldenEye', told Britain's Sunday Times newspaper: "I think he got another job or decided he didn't want it. "The 'Star Wars' actor, 35, admits playing the suave spy would have been "fun" but said he had concerns over the long-term nature of the role. A source revealed: "I think Ewan was in greater danger being stuck in one role - which he would be in for quite some time."The part went to Daniel Craig, despite Campbell not being "totally convinced" the 38-year-old was a match for previous Bonds, including Sir Sean Connery. Craig - who has reportedly signed a three film deal, was branded "too soft" by 007 fans, after he admitted he was scared of heights and got injured in his first fight scene. He was also blasted for not being able to master the gears in Bond's Aston martin and demanding an automatic instead. 'Casino Royale' is released worldwide on November 17.
