SINGER JIMMY BUFFET BUSTED BY FRENCH

"Cheeseburger in Paradise" singer Jimmy Buffet was reportedly nabbed with a massive quantity of drugs by French authorities earlier this week.
But unlike fellow aging rocker
Willie Nelson, the 59-year-old Buffet wasn't caught with bushels of pot and mushrooms. According to French media reports, Buffet was found with more than 100 tablets of Ecstasy in his luggage.
Buffet reportedly landed in a private jet at Toulon-Hyères International Airport in the South of France on his way to vacation in the ritzy resort town of St. Tropez. French customs officials searched Buffet's luggage and found the pills. But after being detained for the drug possession, the Grammy-winning singer was freed after paying a fine of merely 300 Euros ($380).
A spokesperson for Buffet vehemently denied the French media reports, saying customs officials only found 20 pills and that they were simply prescription medication. The spokesperson declined to say what the pills were specifically or to comment on why, if the medication was indeed legally prescribed, Buffet paid the fine. "I don't have any additional information," the spokesperson told the New York Post. Asked to contact Buffett to ask him about the incident, she told the paper, "It's not going to be possible." Unlike French law, US law for possession of 100 tablets of Ecstasy would have had Buffet arrested and facing a possible prison sentence and fines of up to $100,000. Buffet is set to release his latest album, Take the Weather With You, next week.
