BRAD PITT UP FOR MORE AWARDS

Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett in 'Babel"

'Babel' has been nominated for an incredible seven Golden Globe Awards.The desert-based thriller, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, is up for Best Drama, Best Supporting Actress for Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi and Best Director for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu among others. Brad - who has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category - is"pleased" the movie has been named in so many different categories. He said: "I am so pleased to be nominated along with my fellow actors in 'Babel' for a Golden Globe. I am very proud of this film and I congratulate Alejandro, Rinko, Adriana and Cate, as well."Martin Scorsese's mob thriller 'The Departed' is nominated in six categories including Best Drama, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, Best Supporting Actor for Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg, Best Director for Martin Scorsese and Best Screenplay for William Monahan. Hollywood veteran Clint Eastwood received a double nomination for 'Flags of Our Fathers' and 'Letters From Iwo Jima'. It was also a good night for British stars, with Sacha Baron Cohen, Judi Dench, Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren all receiving nominations. Cohen - who is up for Best Comedy Actor for his portrayal of Kazakhstani reporter Borat in 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' - insisted his alter ego will be proud to learn about the film's success. He said: "I have been trying to let Borat know this great news, but for the last four hours both of Kazakhstan's telephones have been engaged. Eventually, Premier Nazarbayev answered and said he would pass on the message as soon as Borat returned from Iran, where he is guest of honor atthe Holocaust Denial Conference."The winners will be announced on January 15 at a star-studded ceremony in Beverly Hills.
