That’s a plastic replica of a man’s private parts, indeed, being held to his ear by the self-styled “Dr. Love” of Singapore who met with New York’s own Dr. Love, Dr. Judy Kuriansky in the once-sex-phobic city/country of Singapore. Dr.Love/East, whose real name is Wei Siang Yu, exchanged notes with Dr Judy on the world of sex at his drop-in advice “office” – called the Playroom -- the site of small singles gatherings for Singapore’s hip set, sprinkled with sex toys on a shelf and a love swing with fur-lined stirrups center-stage and 1960’s psychedelic Austin-Powers wall coverings. The East and West Dr. Loves teamed up when offering sex advice to visitors at SEXPO, Singapore’s second festival of sex shows, sundries and seminars, sponsored this year by Zestra, the female sex stimulant. But the plastic phallus is really Wei’s new invention: a penile-shaped telephone. It’s symbolic of the pervasive way singles are now hooking up: SMS’ing on the telephone. In case you haven’t noticed throughout Asia, everyone’s ear is plastered to a cell phone, and Singapore’s sex guru is taking advantage of the mania, to build his network of the hip set partygoers, consumers of myriad sex-related products, future TV viewers, and readers of his new magazine “Love Airways.” The endlessly energetic and quirky 37-year old single guy -- who really went to medical school, whose signature black glasses perch on his hairless forehead, and whose marketing ploys know no bounds -- told Dr Judy in an exclusive that he is planning to unseat Hugh Hefner as the King of Sex. The headline-grabbing Wei plans to travel to Malaysia in mid-December to launch his new sex magazine in the Muslim world. The mag just hit the stands in Singapore, and despite the sex hype, is more artsy than raunchy, aside from photos like that of a sunflower nestled in a naked woman’s crotch.

“I’m going to declare war on Playboy,” Wei told Dr. Judy, calling the 80-year old icon Hef too risque for the Eastern world. Wei says he is even in talks with a major international television company to launch a TV show about sex in India. The company is attracted to the former radio and TV host’s ability to whip up a frenzy of a one-man dynasty of sex parties, love boat trips (a “conception cruise” for $1,800) and membership club ($50) -- powered by his SMS networking. Taking Dr Judy on a whirlwind clun-hopping in Singapore, Wei handed out invites to his upcoming “Singapore’s sexiest leather and rubber party” expecting 1,000 of his closest friends. Almost every dancing or chatting partygoer was talking on a cell phone or clutching it anxiously to not miss a buzz. “It’s rude not to answer a text,” a skimpy skirted disco-er explained.
