HEATHER MILLS TO BE HER OWN LAWYER

Heather Mills and Paul McCartney

Heather Mills will represent herself in her divorce battle with Sir Paul McCartney. The former model has abandoned barristers, who can charge up to $25,000 a day for some of the hearings in a bid to control the mounting costs. Heather, 38, represented herself in the High Court on Wednesday. She also represented herself last week when she applied for The Beatles legend to be kept out of her Hove home and requested access to the couple's North London mansion. A source told Britain's The Times newspaper: "She has been working very closely with her law firm but felt she could manage without recourse to barristers. She is conscious of legal bills. She is an intelligent woman and felt capable of this."Heather's legal bill could reach up to $2 million. She is reported to be seeking an $150 million private settlement with Paul, who has an estimated billion dollar fortune. Heather is still being advised by Princess Diana's divorce lawyer Anthony Julius. Julius said yesterday: "I am happy to represent Heather. I like her and have a great deal of admiration for her. She is intrepid and stalwart. She has encountered - and triumphed over - adversity. Heather has considerable character and strength of purpose and a great deal of natural intelligence."The case will be heard by Mrs Justice Baron, one of the most renowned law judges in the country. Paul, 64, filed for divorce in July after four years of marriage, citing Heather's "unreasonable behaviour".
