WHO CANCELS: ROGER DALTREY ILL

Roger Daltrey

The Who will make it right with their fans in Tampa, Fla., after the band abruptly canceled a concert there because of illness. The British rock band halted its concert Tuesday night before lead singer Roger Daltrey sang a word of the first song, "I Can't Explain." Apparently he couldn't -- sing, that is -- because he was sick, the Tampa Bay Tribune said. "Roger has bronchitis," guitarist Peter Townshend told the crowd of about 9,000 at the Ford Amphitheater. "I've been with Roger and he can barely speak. We're going to have to cancel." Their fans were forgiving and even applauded the March 25 makeup date. "I'd rather see 100 percent of The Who than 50 percent," Alex Hutchins told the newspaper. Leslie Stallings was in the same mood, telling the Tribune, "We're disappointed, but we understand." Tickets for the canceled show will be honored for the March 25 date or refunds can be obtained at the place of purchase, a representative of the Ford Amphitheater said.

THE 'WHO' HEADLINE GLASTONBURY

The Who are to headline this year's Glastonbury Festival. The legendary rockers will close the world famous music event, which takes place over the weekend of June 22-24. Amazingly, it is the first time the band - who formed around 40 years ago -will have appeared at the festival. Guitarist Pete Townshend admits it was great telling his 17-year-old son Joseph he and bandmate Roger Daltrey had been asked to perform. Pete said: "It's the coolest thing in the fucking world! I'm 61 and I can tell my son I'm headlining Glastonbury. I can say to him, 'Come down, bring your friends.' "Other acts confirmed to play Glastonbury this year include the Arctic Monkeys and eccentric Icelandic singer Bjork. Sheffield rockers the Arctic Monkeys are believed to be headlining either the Friday or the Saturday night. The Who's Glastonbury performance will be part of a new European tour, which they announced yesterday.

PETE TOWNSHEND'S DOGS TELL HIM THINGS

The Who guitarist Pete Townshend claims his pet dogs talk to him.The 61-year-old rocker is very close to his pooches and insists they communicate with him directly. He even claims one of the mutts predicted the freezing weather that hit southern England this week.Townshend, who lives in Richmond, is quoted by Britain's Daily Express newspaper as saying: "I believe my dogs talk to me. One of the dogs told me it was going to snow this week."Earlier this week, Townshend apologised to Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones for saying they are too old to tour. The musician previously claimed musicians from the 60s should call it a day and stop playing live. But Townshend - who famously penned the line "I hope I die before I get old"in the band's classic hit 'My Generation' - has now taken back his scathing comments, saying: "When I do interviews I must imagine being drunk and decide to shout my mouth off for old time's sake. But why do I pick on folks I love?"

MIKE MYERS TO PLAY KEITH MOON IN 'WHO' BIO-PIC

Mike Myers (left) is to play the late Who drummer Keith Moon in a film of his life. The 'Austin Powers' actor has been picked to play the wild rocker by his former bandmate Roger Daltrey, who has been working on the project with producer Nigel Sinclair for around ten years. Daltrey and Sinclair are now looking for a suitable director to helm the movie, titled 'See Me, Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked For Your Pleasure'. Sinclair - who has previously worked on such films as 'No Direction Home: Bob Dylan', 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines' and 'Sliding Doors' -insists Daltrey always wanted Myers for the lead role. He said: "Roger's dream was to have Mike as the creative force to pull this film together."Moon, whose drink and drug binges have become interwoven into rock 'n' roll folklore, died in his sleep in 1978 after overdosing on Chlormethiazole, a prescribed drug he was taking as part of a program to stop him drinking. He was aged 32.The film is due to be released in 2009.
